- Reduce caffeine intake
especially on an empty stomach in the morning. Swap it for ginger tea, which can help soothe nausea.
- Quit smoking and alcohol , and seek help if you’re struggling.
- Limit medication use unless prescribed by your doctor.
- Avoid fried foods, chocolate, greasy meals, refined white grains, and processed snacks (like cakes, pastries, and cereal bars), as they can trigger blood sugar drops and worsen nausea.
- Opt for whole grains, sweet potatoes, or legumes (like lentils, peas, and beans) instead of refined grains.
- Include enough protein in your meals or snacks to help curb nausea.
- Eat smaller, more frequent meals and add snacks like almonds and nuts, which are rich in vitamin B6 and magnesium to combat nausea.
- Keep a snack or natural remedy on your nightstand for quick relief from morning nausea.
- Choose lightly acidic spring water (with a pH below 7) like Mont Roucous or Rosée de la Reine to ease nausea.
- Stay hydrated—aim for 2.3 liters of water daily to avoid an empty stomach, which can worsen nausea.
– If you’re vomiting frequently, temporarily switch to mineral water to replenish lost minerals, then return to spring water after a few weeks.
Ginger for pregnancy nausea
Ginger is a versatile remedy that comes in three forms:
- Powder : Mix ½ teaspoon (1g) in a glass of water and drink before breakfast. Do not exceed ½ teaspoon daily.
- Hydrosol : Take 1 teaspoon before getting out of bed and before breakfast until nausea subsides.
- Capsules : For persistent nausea, take 1g (1000mg) daily before breakfast to benefit from its active compounds.
- Pro tip : Carry some crystallized ginger in your bag for quick relief on the go.
If ginger causes heartburn, try melissa or neroli hydrosols instead.
Melissa and Neroli Hydrosols
For persistent nausea or if ginger isn’t for you, try this blend:
- Mix 50mL of melissa hydrosol with 50mL of neroli hydrosol.
- Take 1 teaspoon of the mixture, pure or diluted in water, 3-5 times daily, including once upon waking.
Lemon essential oil for nausea
For fast relief, dilute 1 drop of lemon essential oil in a teaspoon of honey or place it on a sugar cube. You can repeat this up to 4 times a day. When you’re out, place 1 drop under your tongue as needed (also up to 4 times daily).
My Personal Experience
During my three pregnancies, I struggled with morning sickness. It was exhausting yet exciting at the same time. In the end, patience was my greatest ally. Remember, this is just a phase of pregnancy, and it will pass quickly. The moment you hold your baby for the first time, all the struggles will fade away. Those precious moments make every challenge worth it.
